چکیده

MHC-I type chain-related protein A (MICA) is a newly discovered transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by MHC genes. MICA mainly functions as natural killer (NK) cells, cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), and other immune effector cell activation receptor NKG2D ligands. These ligands can bind NKG2D-specific proteins, transmit activation signals, induce immune effector cells to clear rapidly the tumor cells of abnormal ligand expression, and play roles in immune surveillance (Bauer et al., 1999; Wu et al., 1999; Li et al., 2001). Under normal circumstances, MICA is mainly expressed in the thymus and gastrointestinal epithelium. However, in recent years, MICA expression or overexpression has been found in numerous tumor cells, and has thus been regarded as a tumor-associated antigen (Madjd et al., 2007; Fuertes et al., 2008; Xiao et al., 2008; Zhang et al., 2008). Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a common malignancy of the head and neck, and knowledge on the effect of MICA expression on this cancer is limited. In the current study, we used immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to explore MICA protein and mRNA content in OSCCs. The relationship between clinical and pathological parameters was also analyzed. The aim was to increased knowledge

E-cadherin Promoter Methylation Comparison and Correlation with the Pathological Features of the Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Esophagus in the High Risk Region

E-cadherin is among tumor suppressor genes which mostly subjects to the down-regulation in squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus (SCCE). The gene is tightly associated with the tumor invasion and metastasis in multiple human cancers, especially SCCE. CpG islands’ methylation in the promoter region of E-cadherin is among the mechanisms that have been suggested for the E-cadherin silencing, howeve...

Clinical Significance of Salivary Biomarkers in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Review

Background and Aim: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for approximately 3% of all cancers worldwide, and if diagnosed early, it has a five-year survival rate of around 85%; however, a late diagnosis may decrease the survival rate to 50%. Aberrant expression of several genes is associated with the hallmarks of OSCC including uncontrolled cell proliferation, poor differentiation, invas...

A rapid, early detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma: Real time PCR based detection of tetranectin

The current study is focused on determining the mRNA expression levels of tetranectin, to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and thus aiding in its classification at an early stage. RNA was isolated and cDNA synthesis was performed from the saliva samples of the patients and healthy individuals. A semiquantitative PCR based analysis was performed prior to quantitative and expression bas...

Matrix Metalloproteinase Expression Significance on Oral squamous cell carcinoma Clinical Outcome

Introduction:Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is an invasive neoplasm with a high prevalence. Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) has been thought to play an important role in both the invasion and metastasis of tumors. The aim of this study was to explore the significance of MMPs expression in clinical outcome of these patients. Materials:The most recognized data Bases such as PubMed, Google sc...
